Christmas Light Installation Costs in Milton (2026)

Planning ranges for holiday lighting in Milton in 2026, and why a stepped two-storey in Hawthorne Village costs more to light than a longer bungalow in Timberlea.

These are planning estimates, not prices. They reflect what holiday lighting commonly comes to on Milton houses, so you can judge a quote. Your number is written after a look at the house or clear photos of the front, because height, pitch and the number of gables change it more than anything else.

Planning ranges

  • Seasonal roofline install, bungalow or backsplit front: typically $350–$800 including professional-grade LED supplied for the season, clips, timer, and January takedown.
  • Seasonal roofline install, two-storey front with upper eave and gables: typically $700–$1,500. Steep gables, a lit second side or a back elevation push toward the top.
  • Townhouse frontage: typically $300–$650 per unit, less per unit when a whole row books together.
  • Permanent lighting: typically $25–$45 per linear foot installed, so a townhouse front commonly lands around $1,500–$3,500 and a detached two-storey front around $3,500–$7,500. A new outlet by a Licensed Electrical Contractor, if needed, is extra.
  • Tree and landscape lighting: typically $100–$350 per tree depending on height and whether the canopy is lit, and $50–$150 per shrub or bed.
  • Takedown only (lights you own): typically $150–$400, more with labelled storage.
  • Commercial holiday lighting: quoted per site; small storefronts commonly start around $600–$1,500 and plazas and condominium entrances run higher.

What moves the price

  • Height and pitch. An upper gable on a two-storey is slow ladder work done to fall protection rules; a bungalow eave is reached from a short ladder.
  • Number of gables and peaks. Milton's newer houses often have two or three on the front alone, and each one is cut and fitted separately.
  • Lights supplied or owned. Seasonal supply is built into most installs; using your own outdoor-rated, certified strings lowers the figure if they pass testing.
  • Power. Enough outlets in the right places keep the cost down. A new outlet is electrical work, quoted by a Licensed Electrical Contractor.
  • Timing. November installs on dry roofs are quicker than December installs around snow and frost.
  • Trees and site. Tall conifers, overhead service lines and sloped lawns add time.

Running cost

LED displays are cheap to run compared with old incandescent sets. As an illustration only, a display drawing 100 watts for six hours a night uses 0.6 kWh a night; priced at the Ontario Energy Board's time-of-use off-peak rate of 9.1 Â¢/kWh from 1 November 2026, that is a few cents a night before delivery and regulatory charges. Your display's actual draw is on the quote.

What a quote should say

Which rooflines, gables, trees and features are included; whether lights are supplied or yours; whether takedown and storage are included; how service calls during the season are handled; and that the crew is insured. A single number over the phone for a house nobody has seen is a guess.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my two-storey quoted higher than a longer bungalow?

Height and gables. The upper eave and peaks on a two-storey are slow ladder work at six metres and more; a bungalow's longer eave is reached from a short ladder all the way round.

Is permanent lighting worth it compared with seasonal?

Over several years it often is, because the seasonal install and takedown are paid every year and permanent lighting is paid once. It also gives you warm white lighting and other holidays all year.

Do you charge for a quote?

No. Most Milton houses are quoted from a short visit or from clear photos of the front and any trees to be lit.

Is takedown included?

On most seasonal installs, yes, and the quote says so. If you own your lights and only want takedown, that is priced on its own.

Does it cost more to book late?

December installs can cost more because snow and frost slow the work and the calendar is full. Booking in October for a November install is the cheaper route.

Is HST included in the ranges?

No. Quotes show the price and HST separately, and the ranges here are before tax.
